Are 'Clueless's Paul Rudd and Alicia Silverstone Still Friends Today?

We're totally bugging about Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd's relationship 26 years after they shared the screen as step-sibling love interests in Amy Heckerling's cult classicClueless.

Everything about their performance in the teen drama was anything but a full-on Monet. It was quite the opposite, actually. We totally paused when Cher and Josh kissed for the first time, and no matter how many times we watch Clueless, it never gets old. Somehow we catch something we missed time and time again.

But just like high school doesn't last, neither did the cast's time on the iconic film and soon they all went their separate ways. Silverstone went on to star in Batman & Robin, which wasn't the best decision because she was body-shamed. It essentially ruined her acting career and made her want to quit, but she's returned with Baby-Sitter's Club. As for Rudd, he became Ant-Man and hasn't really aged a day.

But how close are our favorite on-screen couple 26 years later?

They Had A High School Reunion

Even though Rudd's Josh was a college student, he joined in on the Clueless high school reunion for a special panel at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo in 2019. Rudd was joined by Silverstone, Breckin Meyer, and Donald Faison.

Seeing Rudd and Silverstone reunited stirred some feelings in some of the most diehard Clueless fans worldwide. The on-screen couple was sat next to each other and joked and laughed like they were back on set.

At one point, Faison joked, "I think you guys would still be together if we were to ever do a sequel to [Clueless]."

"They would say, 'You guys are still together, wow and you’re still kinda related?'" Rudd joked back.

Of course, Rudd also commented on his youthfulness, saying, "I'm 80 years old on the inside," he joked. "It's a mess underneath all this."

Rudd said he felt like Matthew McConaughey's character from Dazed and Confused during his time playing Josh. Meaning he was the older character still hanging around a younger crowd. He felt "a little bit on the outside," but the wedding scene was great for him because he got to experience being with the whole cast. We wonder how Clueless would have gone if Josh was also a high school student.

It was great that Rudd took time to catch up with his Clueless co-stars, especially with his busy schedule. Usually, when these types of reunions happen, the castmember that went on to be the most famous doesn't show (mostly due to a busy schedule or them feeling like they're too good to hang with the cast from their first project), but we never had any doubts about Rudd showing up.

Silverstone Looked Back On 'Clueless' 25 Years Later

Silverstone talked to Vogue about the cult classic for its 25th anniversary and said that she couldn't relate to Cher initially. But she had to sit back and not judge the Valley princess too much.

"I found Cher on the page to be materialistic and unappealing. And really annoying, to be honest," Silverstone revealed. "But I realized that was just me judging her. Once I started working on her, I found all the heart and all the love." There's no doubt that Josh had to do a similar thing to fall in love with Cher as well.

It also helped that Heckerling pretty much gave her free reign to do whatever she needed to pull Cher off. "She was the type of director, and these are the best directors, who hire the person they think is right for the job and just let them fly," Silverstone said.

But while Silverstone had nothing in common with Cher and therefore had to put a lot in to play the character, there was one person on set who really didn't have to change much.

When asked which cast member was the most similar to their onscreen counterpart, Silverstone said Rudd, of course. Josh is a nice guy, and so is Rudd; there's really no difference between them.

"Paul Rudd, maybe? He's just a good guy who's smart and lovable and all those good things that make up Josh," Silverstone said, once again making our hearts melt at their off-screen love of each other.

When it was time to leave set, Silverstone got to take home virtually all of Cher's clothes, and she kept them for a while until she gave most of them away. The one memento she did keep was a photo Rudd took of her rescue dog Sampson, who was on set a lot. "I still have that, which is beautiful. But I think that’s it. I don't think I have anything else, just a Paul Rudd original." Again, we didn't think Silverstone and Rudd's relationship could get any cuter.

This past April, Silverstone remembered to wish her favorite co-star a happy birthday too. On her Instagram post that showed some really great shots of her and Rudd, she wrote, "Happy birthday to Josh... oops! I mean Paul Rudd. 😉😂❤️ He doesn't have social media for me to tag him, but its his special day! 🎉🎊 I’m so thankful for all of the memories we've shared together."

It's safe to say that Rudd and Silverstone will always be friends after building a great friendship during their time on Clueless. They're both lucky to have co-starred together in their early careers, and nothing's really changed between them. Is there a world where they're not friends? As if!
