Brad Silberling, who directed the film, jumped into the conversation to say casting Sawa was a no-brainer after seeing him interact with Ricci. "Let's be honest, my friend. Not only does Devon Sawa credit her with landing that role, he also reveals that they became friends on set. The Chucky actor played the friendly ghost in his human form while Christina Ricci starred as Kat Harvey, Casper's eventual love interest. In the final moments of the film, the pair dance together before sharing an onscreen kiss.

“I don’t know why I wasn’t nervous, Christina was a beautiful girl and I was a young boy,” he told E! News during an October 2021 interview. “I don’t know, the day was just very easy and everybody was so respectful and it was exciting. I can’t lie, I remember being excited the whole day. It was just a lot of fun.”

“We got along quite well in the small amount of time I did work on Casper. We are the same age and I ended up going and doing school with her while I was there. I worked one or two days, but I was there for maybe two weeks. She just remembered and recommended me and I put myself on tape and I got it. We hung out a lot during the shoot.”

Devon Sawa does admit that he was initially intimidated by the Sleepy Hollow actress.

"I was the only 15-year-old boy with the cast of the hottest young girls in town, so it was a lot of fun," Sawa commented. Although his no comment still leads people to believe there may have been some teen romance between these two 90s icons!

Despite it being nearly 30 years since they worked on Now and Then, the acting pair are still in touch.
